HELP NEEDED! ABOUT TO START FIRST PROJECT
« on: August 30, 2007, 08:15:28 PM »
OK guys, I have a relatively cheap guitar that has a bunch of problems, and things I don't like as far as the electronics go.  The pickups hum like crazy, sound pretty bad, the neck pickup is working at about half output, and the guitar is set up for coil tapping which I don't use.  I want to replace all the pots and the pickups with a regular LP-style three way system.  This is my first time through this.  I'd like to put some pretty hot pickups in it.  Nothing active, but I'm in a metal frame of mind right now.  I'll find the pickups.  But I have no idea where to buy the pots, or what exactly to look for.  Any guidance here would be appreciated.

By the way, the guitar is an import Dean Hardtail.  It plays really nice so I want to get the electronics up to par.  Thanks in advance!

You can go to:

http://www.rsguitarworks.net

or

http://www.specialtyguitars.com/kits/lespaul.html

Mrmudcat and many others highly recommend the RS Guitar Works. I think you'll find what you're looking for at one of these two places. Good luck with your project and let us know how it turns out.

Everyone seems to like GFS pickups but what about the other electronics they sell?

Go for it...it's a blast to build a guitar and hear it for the first time after putting all the parts together. Bummer when it don't work the first time, but then that's what's fun about it...
