Once again Pearl, Texas is coming up this weekend, any of you going to make it this time or will I be the only one there???? Last month after meeting up with all you folks, I got up the next morning with a bad inner ear infection and it is worse today than it's been so far. Can't see, can't walk, sick and dizzy but if it is any better at all I am planning on being at Pearl this Saturday.Hope to see some of you there and this time we'll do your songs...I need to learn new ways to play the guitar instead of just pick,strum..pick,strum that I do now.

PAPPY,
I think you are woozy from STARING at SHINER'S boob-guitar drawings.  Sensory overload with too much of a GOOD thing all at the same time!!!  lolol   [8D]

Sorry, Pappy, I can't make it this month, either [:(].  I am targeting November, though, and hopefully I'll have yet another forum member who might well be interested that I can bring along.  I have an idea that once I retire in December, I'll become pretty much a regular at Pearl, it was such good fun!!

Get yourself some rest and make sure you take time to take care of you!!

Sorry Pappy, we can't make it this weekend either.

I'm on call the first weekend in November too, but I'll try to switch weekends.

Just found this on my camera...forgot it was there. One of the Pearl locals. I think it was about a mile or two from the school house.

I think I'm in, Chad.  It was great fun last time!!

Any chance you can bring that Nashville tuned guitar?

See ya there, I hope--will know with more certainty as it grows nearer, but things look good for right now.  May even be able to bring my SO, AnnA!

Pappy, How far is Pearl from Rockport? We are planning to spend Jan.Through March down there and I would like to find a place to jam and play a little. I'm just learning and a good jam session is great for learning new stuff. Thanks

Hey Crawdad, if you're talking about Rockport down near Corpus, it's a little over five hours.

Crawdad, I live in the Houston area and spend quite a bit of time in Rockport--it's my favorite town in all of TX.

I could see how you could get to Pearl in 5 hours from Rockport, but even from Houston it is about 3 1/2 hours, so a 5 hour drive would be quite a feat, IMHO.  I go to Austin and then west from Austin on 183, then north from Lampassas.

Here's a link to the website for the event:

http://www.pearlbluegrass.com/

[Edit--BTW, I surfed in and check out the Mapquest link Chad posted--if you take that route, you are in for a real treat!  It will take you through what is probably the most scenic part of Texas, the Texas Hill Country!!  It would be a good choice!).]

Tell you what, Crawdad, I'm retiring at the end of Dec and will probably spend quite a bit of time in the Rockport area.  I'll drop you an email and find some time to jam together.  I stay in a little nature resort B & B in Lamar, right across Copano Bay to the north of Rockport, called The Habitat.

Hope to see you in Pearl in November [edit--well, DUUUH!!!  I guess you aren't going to be there in Nov. since you won't be in TX till January].  Just so you know, we seem to have staked out a claim under a huge live oak tree just to the west of the side door to the school/community center.  If it's raining, though, there are plenty of places to play inside and even covered play areas outside.  You'll like it!!

That is a neat video on there about the Pearl festival. http://www.pearlbluegrass.com/
The link is on the side where it says:  Look Ma! Pearl's on TV

Is that you guys under the tree around 15 minutes in the video?

Looking forward to coming down to Texas and spending time on the gulf. I've been retired for a few years now because of health but am doing well now and really like to play but I'm not very good, just love to make music. Playing with new people and also just listening is not only fun but I've learned a lot of licks and different ways to do things. This will be our first trip down south for the winter. So everything will be a experience. See you all in Jan.

That's our tree!! (But that's not us).

Here's a photo of us under the tree:

Hey, for those who might want to stay overnight and partake of what must be some good pickin' around the RV's, I contacted the event organizer and asked if they allow tent camping or limit it strictly to RV's.  Here's his answer:

We allow tent camping or whatever

It might be a bit cool to camp in the winter, but come spring and summer I sure do plan on doing so.  I also asked if we could put more than one tent up in each camping space; didn't get an answer to that, other than .....or whatever--I'm going to interpret that to mean that a group of tents in one camping space is OK.

Sounds like fun to this ol' camper!!
