Mystery Guitar - Washburn Force 6
« on: April 05, 2008, 06:38:00 PM »

I've been living in a shared house for the last 3 years. We decided to clear out the loft (something that's been needed doing for a while!). To our surprise we uncovered a really tasty Washburn Force 6, I say tasty cause it sounds great!

Does anyone know anything about these guitars?

Here is the description:

Black Solid Body with Red Stripes (Gloss).
2 Washburn Covered Hummers
1 Vol & 1 Tone
3 Way Switch
Locking Nuts & Fine tuning
Trem Hole
Black Pickguard
Red Dot Fret Inlays
Serial #842653

It would be great to know more about this guitar.

When & where it was made?
The frequencies of the tone control?
what it retailed at, at the time?
& who played one!!

Be great to hear more about it!

Many thanks

James

i bought one when i was in High school over 30 yrs ago and paid around $800.00 for it including a wonderbar.  I kick myself in the ass everytime i think about selling it. It was a great guitar.  The wonderbar i thought was an awesome tremolo system. i liked it way better than the floyd rose at the time.  I would give my left nut for another set up like i had so if you ever decide to part with it let me know. knucklenuts68@hotmail.com     You have a nice guitar there and i wish i could give you more help on when and where they were made but i can't.  I believe Washburn has somewhat made knockoff guitars of the likes of Fender mostly but i would play a force 6 any day over a strat. I don't know of any big names that played them at the time i purchased it but a friend of mine owned one and i fell in love with it and had to have one of my own.

Hi James and welcome to the forum. Your Force 6 was made in Japan 1984 part of the Panther, Force series. Nice guitars, I think the model with the Wonderbar trem retailed at about $599 back in 84, the others according to their numbers Force 2 Force 3 etc were slightly cheaper with either a stop tail or fulcrum trem. Sorry but I have no idea of frequencies in fact getting any information from the eighties models is difficult. The humbuckers are most likely EMG Selects.
I've put a link to a couple of pics, my 1983 Force 2, a 1983 Force 30 and a pic I scrounged of a Force 6.

I have a Force 6, bought it used in mid-eighties for $500 from a derelict friend.  I replaced the pickups with some Les Paul humbuckers in the early nineties, but still have the originals.

I don't play it much - it hasn't come out of the case in years.  I prefer my actual Les Paul.

BTW, I found one on e-bay for sale.  Nice pix.  I am NOT the seller!
