knocking in neck
« on: May 16, 2008, 12:24:53 PM »
i was wondering if this is gonna get seroius as i have one of the new N2's and i do love it but when i bring the tremelo arm towards the neck i get a slight click or knock and when i release gently it does it again!! i'm not a pro guitar player and i don't record so i'm just enjoying learning so if it's not a big prob i might just leave it

anyone got any ideas?

I have had this same thing happen on a ibanez before.I took it to the shop to see what they could do. After checking the neck joint for any rocking (which was just fine) They went on to check the truss rod. What they found there was the problem. The rod was just loose enough so when I used the trem bar there would be a knock and when returning to tension their would also be a knock. My knock was enough that it was slightly heard thru the pickups. Not bad enough to hear while I was playing but enough to drive me nuts when practicing without a amp. What they did in my case is shim the rod slightly then tighten or
straighten the neck. They had a way to measure it while the strings were on, and made a adjustment to .005. This cured the knock and really made the neck play more consistant, as well as intonating better. They had me return after a weeks time to recheck and bingo after a week of me beating on that trem it still held fine. Hope this helps
