Things you learn along the way.
« on: September 28, 2008, 09:28:35 PM »
Well had an interesting week! First I practiced alot for next weeks lesson, then found out that you should not use an industrial cleaner without gloves for it will eat off any calluses you have built up and you have to start over with the pain of tender fingers. Also had my end pin come out, just as I was putting up guitar for the night, but I caught it before the floor!! I ran across nextlevelguitar, what are your thoughts about using some of their info to go along with a teacher taught lesson. Just seen a few things that would be fun to try but don't want to get off track. Still alot of fun!! Truk.

Hey Truk, part of the fun is the ride, and learning from anywhere is always a good thing. If any bad habits creep in, with you being a very newbie and in lessons, your teach can straighten it out before it becomes permanent. Don't hold yourself back to just what the teacher gives you each week. But LEARN everything he gives you for the week and be prepared when you do the next lesson. You would be surprised how fast some people grow beyond their instructor because they tried everything they came across. It's the love of playing and not the structure of one teacher that makes the journey so amazingly satisfying.

Hey truk,
Sounds like you are mvoing alng very well.  Congrats!!!

I agree with donny with one small caveat.  Be careful you don't try and tackle to much at one time.  Particularly in the beginning, it's easy to get overwhelmed.  Try and master a few things, rather than dabble in it all.

A very well put point, Keel. Keep it simple enough to start and grow with it. If you try something you see and can't seem to get it, let it go for a while, bring it up to the teacher to see if he has any suggestions, like try this or get some other basics down first and we will get back to that I agree with you, Keel 100%

Another thought occurred to me...put it this way....You can't put the curtains up in the windows until you build a good foundation.

Ahhhhh... flashback to my hippie-era apartment with curtains, (blankets, tablecloths, clothes, etc,) thumbtacked over the windows!

(and blacklight posters... of course!)

Table made from a discarded door & cement blocks, gas heat via oven, holiday meals of Jiffy-Pop & Boone's Farm, Desiderata, Nixon...
...and, of course, my 1960 StarChief (which NEVER looked this good):

This Time Capsule may just need it's own thread...
