CB

Is there a gap between the end of the neck and the body - cause as I recall most Mercury's were 24fret and it looks like there is a gap...

Hi mate, the gap is the scratchplate being slightly short at the neck. I was gonna just dab a coat of black paint there to sort that out while I had the plate off but in the rush to get it back together I forgot. Maybe next string change i'll do it. Trouble is i've got a 83 Force 2 on the bench that i've been meaning to take apart and spruce up for ages, so what with that and my sons Bass Collection bass needing a new nut and saddles, my spare room looks like a scene from fright night at the hard rock cafe. Truthfully I really couldn't keep up with it all if I hadn't taken early retirement and had a Proper Job. But I guess like you and so many others here I love my guitars, they're like children, if they're sick you gotta make 'em better !!
