a standard Swamp Ash model, should be a good match for it but you will have to find out for certain what wood/model it was going to be before you order a neck.

email chris andrews, he will help you out.  chris.andrews@soundtech.co.uk

Right, a slight update on this thread but hopefully more will follow in the next month.... hopefully the pics will speak for themselves

my scraps of padauk im using for the body blank

glued up boards with a quick rub of danish oil.  The finish matches my neck really well

not bad!!!

my first attempt at an N4 CAD template...need to get the neck pocket adjusted a bit more but its almost there

If I do a good job of this one, Im thinking of having a one peice mahogany body with a book-matched padauk top with the sap wood down the centre of the body a bit like this peice.  I have 2 full 5 foot boards with this sap wood edge

The small peice of scrap has not been sanded or planed since I first got the timber in the 1990's.  There is no finish on either peice, but the difference that the oxidisation makes is enormous.  Im hopein that the whole thing will turn a lovely earth brown colour eventually!

parts ive ordered this week....

5way CRL switch - 250k CTS pot - 4pdt switch
gold neck bolts with posh washers, string ferrules, barrel jack socket, R2 lock nut, vol knob, strap buttons
a warwick quick compartment for the electronics

still to decide on....
gold bridge (possibly badass style)
p/ups  - Im going for HSH with 2 main wiring configs.  the 4pdt switch will give me either HH or SSS.
Initial thoughts on p/ups are...
neck...Bare knuckle Mule
middle...SD SSL1
bridge..B&B L500L

I will keep you posted on any more developments.  The body blank is being glued and planed and I will be trialling the SEC neck joint routing as soon as Ive fine tuned the CAD template.  Its hard to fit this in between work, gigging, my garden and the GF so progress is a little slow!

Hi guys! Just found this old topic! You mean it's this easy to get a replacementneck for the N4?! Is the best tip to mail this Chris character? As you can figure out from my user name I live in Sweden and one of my N4 must have been custom ordered from previous owner 'cause it has got a neck that's too thin (think Ibanez RG Prestige) so I want to replace it. Perhaps someone think the original ones are too thick and wants to trade it with me?

Hi N4 Sweden, Is there a Washburn distributor in your country?  Im not sure if chris at soundtech would be able to get you a neck but it may be worth asking him.  Mine took around 2 months to arrive, but you will need to give a serial number to washburn for them to make a replacement.  It may cost you more if washburn have to make a one-off but its worth asking as they rarely come up for sale.

hope you manage to find one!,
Sam

Well, Ive managed to crack the SEC neck joint routing!  Ive got a jig that will do it perfect every time so Im starting work on a body tonight.  The first one im making is made up of the scraps and isnt much to look at but if all goes well and I can get jigs/templates made along the way I will be making a one peice Padauk N4 variant.  I might as well refer to it as an N7 just to fill in the gap with model numbers! [:)] ...although that may rub a few nuno nuts up the wrong way!!!...and maybe washburn aswell.

Also installed the gold locking nut and gathered together some more parts.
I will post photos later in the week to show progress.

get some grovers on that neck, those cheap tuners aren't angled right!

very excited to see this project done!

the tuners aint screwed in yet.  Theyre not bad quality actually, plus once theyre locked off they dont do much anyways. If they dont do the job properly I'll replace them with grovers or warwick tuners.

Nah!  I might build a few different bodies to strap onto the end of this lovely washburn neck, but I cant afford to buy another neck unless I sell something else.  I need a new amp setup first before any more geetars!!!!  I missed out on a bargain marshall 30th aniversary 1x12 100w valve combo with the ext cab on fleabay....by a measly $3  [:(]

My mate wants me to build him an N2 kind of creation if this one goes well, should be much easier to do a strat type neck joint aswell!

That will be a padauk neck, mahogany body, OFR and dimarzio air nortons.  Im trying to squeeze all the electronics into single smaller compartments so I can leave as much body wood intact as possible.

Couldnt do any more work last night as the missus had a headache. She's working all day tomora though so I will try and get plenty done and photograph it as I go.  Anyone want a pic of anything in particular?
