n2 vs n61
« on: June 19, 2009, 03:53:43 PM »
hello all, had some ?s about the n series, i picked up a N1 on trade and absolutely love the neck and body shape, i replaced the bridge pup w/ bill lawrence xl500,sounds great, im looking at getting a better version of the N series, the N4 is amazing,i know, but is a bit outta my price range, so down to the N2 and N61, any thoughts on these guitars? i was leaning more towards the 61 due to the stephens cutaway, just wanted some opinions first!

i've never bothered with N2 as for me its just too far removed from the N4 in quality and spec, but i have played the  N61. wan't impressed by it. just didn't feel right

of the 2 i'd be drawn to the N62 though as theres loads of things about the N2 that i just plain hate!

the pickup spacing is wrong, the horns are too thin, the body shape is worng, the bridge is pretty poo, the headstock is wrong, wrong, wrong!

I'd honestly say if the N4 is what you want, just save up for longer, you won't regret it. you can pick them up 2nd han very cheaply, or talk to Jon at FUNKY MUNKY guitars he has the best prices ( N4 with maple neck and board for $1249)

if you really can't wait/spend that, go for the N61.

my opinion :)

N2 Rocks!
Pickup spacing is different, but tht doesnt really affect that much, after replacing the neck pickup you have a guitar which is so comfy to play that you dont even have to make an effort to play

N61...  At the very least, you get the SEC.

The only thing I will go the N2 is the Alder, but after feeling a SEC I simply can't feel comfortably with guitars that don't have it. I will go N61.

Apparently from when i was asking Jon about whether he'd be able to do a good deal on it, it's been prototyped, and it's looking pretty sweet!!

things are looking good for me getting one, just found someone doing hay really cheap, so that will save me a bundle this winter, and the mortgage company wrote me to say my payment were going down by $130 a month!!!   Score!!!!

I have to agree with Buddha.  Save up twice as long and get a second hand N4.  You will always want to upgrade to an N4 if you buy either the N2 or N61.  So why spend the money on a new model thats destined to be upgraded?

Ive got a sneaky suspicion that the 'new' N2 may be a M61 / N2 hybrid. hopefully they put the best bits of them both together.  Thye wouldnt make it 3/4 the quality of an N4 for less thna half the price.  They be killing off the main guitar in that lineup!

if you cant afford it, build it
