Question 1 - From DonovanAllee:
What are the specifics of Jasons crash cymbal.
I have no idea I'm a guitar player!
Do you prefer cats or dogs?
Dogs all the way.
In a magazine I saw, you gave an interview for the mayhem thing you're doing, and it gave a picture of Oli but with your name captioning it (Oli didn't give an interview for this magazine that I saw)... Did you catch this mistake?
Yes I did catch it and we just kinda laughed about it. For some reason little annoying things like that always happen to us but at least they got the band name right.
Question 2 - From JoshBittner
Where did you take lessons from Oli? (I took lessons from him for 2 years in a suburb of Hartford. A younger me might've crossed paths with you.)
I took lessons from Oli at my house. He only lived like 10 minutes from me so it was convenient for him to just come to my house instead of taking them at a store.
Who were you going to thank on the Overcome album, but couldn't cause you said Jason took up the whole page?
That was just me being a jackass because I was too lazy to do a thank you list. I decided to bust Jason for it for fun. I would have thanked the typical people that everyone thanks though. If you read my thanks list in the Fall of Ideals record then it would be just about exactly the same.
Any (family friendly) Spinal Tap moments you'd like to share?
We had the typical get lost in the venue moment in Birmingham England on a tour with Dragonforce. The whole day consisted of us getting lost trying to get t o the stage and the dressing rooms. The place was a complete maze.
Does anyone in the band liek Mudkipz?
Haha I still don't even know how that whole joke started. Something to do with Jason being drunk though.
Question 3 - From Ian Sully
What was the setup you and Oli used on the Overcome album? Any special effects pedals or what?
Our setups are the most simple setups on the planet usually. We always try lots of amps at first then it always just ends up being a peavy 5150 head with a maxon od-9 overdrive pedal. We've used that for so long our ears don't like anything else anymore. Nothing for effects really besides occasional wah pedal here and there and some chorus or reverb wherever we feel necessary. Thank you for the congrats on our album!
Question 4 - From DaphishTheShiz
How long have you known everyone in the band?
I've known everyone for just about 10 years exactly. Once I started going to shows constanly everyone popped up all at the same time.
How long has Oli been your teacher?
Oli taught me for 3 years then I joined the band so I didn't have to pay him anymore after that. haha
Is Oli a hardass as a teacher?
Oli is the best teacher I've ever seen. He lets you learn whatever you are the most interested in and he never makes you feel uncomfortable. He's also amazing at delivering information in a way that anyone can understand. He's very laid back in general when he is not slaying dragons.
I'm starting a new band any tips?
I would say at first just try your best to get shows and meet as many people possible that have anything to do with the music scene in your area. A lot of what has happened in this bands career was from just playing shows with friends and eventually getting into the right bands at the right time to start doing things seriously. Things will snowball in a good way eventually if you just keep playing and you really enjoy it.
How long have you been playing guitar, what exactly is your practice regimen, what guitars do you own, and what guitars did you use to record the All That Remains albums?
I've been playing for guitar for about 16 years now. Thats the only instrument I ever wanted to play. I'm real spastic with practicing. It all depends how much touring we are doing. I get the most playing done when we are about to record an album. Right now I think I have around 15 or 20 guitars. Most of which are washburns from over the past 5 years of working with them. I also have a Gibson les paul that I got when I was ten which I really love. The last two all that remains albums I used my blonde washburn face eraser which is still my favorite guitar they have ever given me. I use it on every tour as well.
Question 5 - From HardKor
What kind of guitar strings do you use?
We use Ernie Ball strings.
Who is your biggest influence?
Definitely Slash from Guns n Roses
Will you try banana flavored ice cream?
Banana flavored anything is absolutely disgusting!
Question 6 - From seattledude1108
What's your rig, favorite piece of gear, and favorite song to play and why?
My live rig and studio setup is usually the same. Peavey 6505 or 5150 head going through a Mesa Boogie cab with a boss noise suppressor, boss tuner, and maxon od-9 overdive pedal for pedals. We use Sennheiser wirelesses as well. My favorite piece of gear is definitely my first US Washburn face eraser guitar. The guitar has super powers! My favorite song to play still I would say is This Calling just because it's really fast and aggressive and the crowd really flips everytime we play it even 3 years after it came out.
Question 7 - From EmotionlessHero
What guitar did you buy first?
My parents got me this purple Yamaha when I first started taking lessons at a store when I was 8. Biggest piece of crap ever!
What guitar did you use in the recording of The Fall of Ideals?
My first US face eraser that I play live all the time.
How long have you played guitar?
About 16 years now
How is it to play with your teacher Oli?
It's amazing being able to play with Oli. Not many people get to be in a band with their guitar teacher. It's the most fun in the studio watching h ow he operates with the writing and he also helps me a lot anytime I have solos to work on since I'm not a full time lead player like he is.
Question 8 - From Br0k3m3xican
What's the funniest thing to happen to ATR while on tour?
Nothing to crazy usually happens with us we're pretty boring. One show in Switzerland though right at the first note of the first song Oli just completely fell off the stage. Once we found out he was ok it was pretty hilarious!
What pedal do you use?
Boss noise suppressor, Boss tuner, and maxon od-9 overdrive pedal.
Who's hotter Meghan Fox or Jessica Alba?
I'm leaning towards Meghan Fox lately.
If Godzilla and Optimus Prime got into a fight who would win?
I'm going with Optimus Prime
Whos hair is more silky and smoothe? Oli or Jasons?
haha I would say Jason. He's always combing and blow drying it like a women.
Question 9 - From Junior88
Which washburn do you play?
My main is the still the blond face eraser that i rave about all the time. Ive had it for 4 years now.
Which guitarists influenced you when you were starting to play?
Slash and Zakk Wylde are still the 2 guys that I love watching play the most. Anyone from the 80's hair metal era as well. There were so many good guitarists during that time.
Question 10 - From the_high_number
What was your first guitar? What was your first Washburn?
My first guitar ever was a purple piece of crap Yamaha. My first Washburn was a Korean import x series that played amazingly well.
What was it that made you try Washburn and what was it that made you stick with them?
I got into the idea of the Washburn through Jon from Shadows Fall. We were at a bar just chatting one night and he gave me a phone number and i called to see if i could work with them and they were immediately awesome to me. I've stuck with them because everyone who works with me is always super nice and they have always treated me the same no matter if my band was doing nothing or doing really well. Everyone there is very respectful and nice it's great.
