Need new tuning heads for D25
« on: October 03, 2009, 08:59:09 PM »
I bought my D25 in July of 81 and I'd like to replace the chrome tuning heads with brass/gold.

Any ideas on the best options with the least impact to changing them out (new holes to drill, etc)?

You only need to remove all the strings take the old ones out and put new ones in .. get them from Stewart McDonald.   There should be no need for drilling or enlarging.  It should add one hour on to changing strings. http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tuners.html    [avoid any kind of drilling, cutting, alteration of the guitar .. that ought not to be necessary.  Have two trays .. put the new stuff in one tray -- screws, tuners etc.  Unscrew and remove one -- replace it and screw in. (small phillips head only)  At end you have the six new ones in place. Put the old ones in a  plastic bag & save.  Make sure everything turns freely (works).  Put on the new strings.   On most acoustics you will be pleased most with light (.10 -- .52) in either 80/20 or Phosphur Bronze.  I avoid off shore brand strings.
