never mind, found it, just had to change my terms a bit....
lace sensors
roller nut
locking tuners

I ask because I'm currently caretaking a '97 USA, rosewood board etc. Been an interesting process. I've grown accustomed to the dual humbucker top...by that I mean clearance between the strings and the top of the guitar itself. When I first started messing around with the strat, the three things that jumped out at me were
A)I was contsantly hitting the top between the strings with the pick, and
B) WOW is this thing comfortable!
C) Single coil sound

It has had me seriously eyeballing the N series, and thinking an N4 with the SD pickup ring/switches could quite possibly be my dream guitar,
~the comfort of a strat
~with the sonic versatility of my Idol (coil tapped SD 59 and custom custom, really versatile)
~the novelty of a Washburn (I run in a decidedly Fender/Gibson biased environment)

Seems you've got a frame of reference I may need to explore N4ESA_UK.

Hey N4ESA! I got the strat yesterday...a lovely 1977 USA Strat....I took it to my guitar tech Mark Pressling....He is the head luthier guy at Fender Europe.

He checked it out and discovered that the neck was badly twisted....I then went sraight back to the guy and got my money back :)

I'll probably get a slightly newer one....a good one though I quite like Strat Plus's or fat strats...we'll see.

I really want a Malmsteen, Clapton or a John Mayer Strat...I'll hold out or something great! No use getting rid of a good N4 to get a Strat thats not too good :)

So dude, where are you based? I'm in West London.

Speak soon

for those interested, I find one of the most useful strat sites is ... http://www.stratcollector.com/

The strat plus has lace sensors (gold on the early ones, then red silver and blue on the later ones) has either a wilkinson or LSR roller nut and normally sperzel locking tuners.  They have the tbx tone control aswell, which i personally dont like.

The strat plus deluxe had a lace sensor dually in the bridge on a few models and also had a locking trem (fender / floyd rose design that is a pig to intonate and change strings on)

Im based in leicestershire, and youre right youd better get a GOOD strat if were ever going to forgive you for selling a padauk N4 [:)]

if you cant afford it, build it
