Trying to Find a Fretless Neck...
« on: December 09, 2004, 08:39:57 AM »
Howdy all -

I'm looking for a Washburn Bantam Pro fretless neck to replace the fretted BUZZard that's on there now.  I just got this one off eBay for $111 and it plays real nice, but the action was pretty high.  So after tweakin' it... I discovered one reason why...  Major Fret Buzz!  [}:)]  DangitAll!

So...  Does anyone know how/where to get a fretless neck?  I saw an auction for a new one on eBay last week...  I'll keep looking there, but would like to get another source.  I've checked all the leads on the Washburn site, and will be calling my local dealer, too.

Any ideas?
Got one in your closet [?]

Thanks -

Did you ever think of just taking the frets out?  Washburn set ups are pretty good as they are.  With all the action in Austin, there have to be a few good luthiers who could do the job.  You can have to old fret board replaced(costly, but about the same as getting a new neck) or just have the frets removed and filled in.  It will be  a lined fretless, but it will sound like a fretless.  Warmouth makes replacement necks for basses, but I think they tend to be more Fender styled.  YOu could always just keep an eye out on Ebay for a fretless bantam series bass.  They are pretty common and go pretty cheaply, and just take the neck off.  If you are lucky, you'll find someone selling a bass where the body is trashed.  You could get another neck for about $25 - $70.   Fretless necks sell for cheaper.  I hope that helps you out.  If i can think of a good Luthier in Austin, I'll repost.  Good luck.
