NEW IDOL SHAPE
« Reply #15 on: January 16, 2010, 03:03:37 PM »
i've been trying to let the initial shock wear off before saying anything. Wanna give it the chance to settle in.

Seeing the neck through, that is certainly the best case representation of what is a bad marketing idea. Love the neck through with stripes, a la the wings of yore...love the heel sculpting, the horn sculpting, the belly carve....Why not on a guitar shape that is it's own? Something the buyer could ONLY get from Washburn.

Buddha, what's standard with a three knob set up like that? master volume and individual tone knobs? Do we know what pickups come stock in these?

I, too, am glad I got a hold of an original Idol. I'll be sad to see it go. I've been generating a lot of interest in folks who DON'T wanna be seen as simply wanting an LP and not being able to afford one. They want their own sweet guitar.

I think it's 2 volume knobs with a master tone knob.  The only guitar I've seen with 2 tone knobs is the Stratocaster.

Yeah, but it's 2 volumes and a master tone...personally, I'd have more use for 2 volume knobs than 2 tone knobs.  I always have my tone controls running wide open.

Good news everyone!  Eric McKenna of Boogie Street Guitars (http://www.boogiestreet.com) will be continuing the original Idol in limited edition runs!

It's better this way, because he's done a lot more for the Idol than Washburn ever did, sadly.

going over the Jam industries web sites makes sense of all of this
they've been making copies under other brand names (greg bennet designs and jay turser canada)
washburn is now owned by one of the major replica peddlers

^Pfft, they don't care.  Isn't that obvious?  According to their research, we're in a minority.  So rather than do the right thing and increase the Idol's fanbase through-gee, I don't know, maybe GETTING THE GUITAR INTO BRICK-AND-MORTOR STORES IN THE REAL WORLD-they've decided to jump on the traditional singlecut bandwagon and try to get a piece of the action PRS, ESP, Dean, and more recently, Carvin, Michael Kelly, and Schecter have been getting.  I wish Gibson would've copyrighted every aspect of Les Paul's design, so maybe we'd have more orignality in the solidbody electric guitar design world.  Remember the shapes released by Japanese manufacturers in very late 70s and early to mid 80s after Gibson sued Ibanez?  They actually made some attempts to be original then.

I think if you want a Les Paul but can't afford one, then just get an Epiphone.  Since Epiphone are owned by Gibson, you're at least halfway there.

Everyone relax.
If you don't like the New False Idol you don't have to buy it.

I'm pleased to announce that we will continue with the Original Idol as well.  I will be coming up with some new designs in the old shape that you all love.
