Changed strings on J3 - disaster!
« on: January 17, 2010, 04:00:39 PM »
I just changed the strings on my J3, I used Ernie Ball Slinky Acoustic Medium Light 12/54, and I get fret buzz and worst of all, same note on multiple frets above 12th. Did I screw up on the string gauge/type - do I need to adjust bridge height or what?

you put acoustic guitar string on an electric guitar.

get some electric guitar strings, but most of all, take those strings off as soon as possible

the flat wound ones ?

do you know what gauge strings were on the guitar before as they will be what it was set-up for, heavier strings will probably require a little bit of adjustments

Yes the flat wound. Don't know what gauge were on, I bought the guitar as-is new, so its whatever they fitted at the factory. Over the phone, Washburn customer service first thought I should use 11s but then changed their mind to 12s. Where I live 12s are difficult to find. Thanks for your time, I'm going to fit the 11s and see what happens.
