Main Entry: 1rare
Pronunciation: \\#712;rer\\
Function: adjective
Inflected Form(s): rar·er; rar·est
Etymology: Middle English, from Latin rarus
Date: 14th century

3 : seldom occurring or found

This one certainly fits that definition....at least in my experience!

Additionally, while I'm waiting for difinitive information from Nick, I suspect this was a very limited run....my serial # ends with 300, and considering that it took me months to find anyone with one in stock, I suspect that the entire run was probably limited to 300, making it a low production model.  Want really rare?  Try to find the CE model, the C124SWCE....only 12 ever received by Washburn, according to Nick. I didn't even know they made one till Pike posted that blue book info that was deleted at the request of the copyright holder.

I sent Nick an email, asking if mine might be the very last of a run of 300, which might well make it a rare piece.  It gets even better, here's his reply in part:

Hey Doug,

It was far less than 300.  We only sold 24 of the C124SWK.

thanks

Nick

IMHO, considering the volume in which many Washburns were made, even the DB models, this makes my C124SW a rare guitar, indeed [:D] .

Getting very well acquainted with it, Mark!  I have a digital camera that will take video with sound, but it requires a new High Definition SD card....not sure if the card will work with my card reader (necessary right now as I am in Kansas and have to use the library's rather outdated computers).....if it will work, I'll try to get a couple of tunes up on YouTube or perhaps Photobucket's video hosting service.  If it won't work with my reader, perhaps when I am back in Texas in a couple of weeks I can get something uploaded with my home computer.

I can tell you that it is starting to play very well....it took a while to settle in, but every time I play it, it gets more expressive.  Now, that's what I was hopin' for! I bought a set of high quality strings for it, expecting that the strings put on at the factory were probably chosen for their money-saving qualities, so I'll try to get them changed out before I do any video recording.

Cheers from across the universe [:D] !

Dug-My suspicions are confirmed. The rest of the instrument is as beautiful as the headstock!!If it sounds like it looks, you've a winner on (in) your hands.I get the impression you've been at this a lot longer than myself, but I'd like to recommend you try D'addario Pro-Arte strings, and use the weird composite string for the G.It's strange in that it sounds kind of muted at first. As it gets played in,it comes alive with a clarity and sustain that is better than the rest of the strings. One of my daughters broke the G and D strings, and I tried reverting to the regular G that came as an option in the Pro-Arte set.Had to buy a new set because I couldn't live without the composite string. My WN-50 is the loudest, clearest classical I have ever heard.Hope yours is,too!Top of the season to all!Jamie.

Good to find another classical guitar lover, Jamie!  I've been playing for 40 years now, started on a classical and didn't really seriously pick up a steel string or a flatpick until about 5 years ago (that was my first Washburn, the WD32S).

Since you like classicals, here are some photos of my best.  I mentioned my handmade Darren Hippner concert grade classical, #506...master-grade redwood soundboard, Rio Jacaranda Brazilian Rosewood sides and backs, snakewood bindings/bridge/headplate.  The soundboard is the thinnest I have ever seen, which makes it VERY loud!

Hope you enjoy it!

It's hard to get a decent shot of the graining on the back...shoot the photo straight on and I get glare (the first photo), shoot at an angle and no glare but not exactly a clear view of the graining:

Nothing sounds quite like redwood:

Here it is with my custom shop Breedlove 000 (redwood soundboard, ziricote sides and back), fronts:

and backs:

Thanks for the tip on the ProArte strings....I got a set with the Hippner, have never put them on as I use sterling silver strings on my classicals.  I'll have to give them a try!

Cheers from.....
