Serial Number Question - J6S
« on: March 20, 2010, 07:04:25 AM »
Recently purchased a J6S on ebay with Serial number S4080...  What does the S indicate in the model number (and serial number)?  Reading through the archive information, I'm thinking it was manufactured in '94?  When I go to the link for 1994, I don't see a J6S, only a J6.  Mainly want to know when and where it was made and what S stands for.

Thanks.

Serial Number Question - J6S

Hi rflora and welcome to the Forum. Don't know a lot about the J6 itself but would presume the S in front of the serial denotes Samick Factory Korean built, and the S added behind the Model numbers stands for Solid Top. I'm sure if I'm wrong one of the boys will be along to correct me. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information.  Hey gtracer, how did you know the last 4 of the serial when I didn't post it?  Very interesting.  Anyway, pretty proud of this instrument.  Especially for the price...just over 3 bills.  Really inspiring me to start playing a lot more.

Serial Number Question - J6S

Hi,

I recently bought a J6 with serial number N 0002017.

N could be for colour; Natural and since it was bought from new by the previous owner in 2003 I suspect it could be a millenium model (IE from 2000). But I'm guessing, does anyone know if I'm right about this?

Serial Number Question - J6S
« Reply #6 on: November 07, 2010, 01:47:04 PM »

I have no idea actually what my serial number means (and I have discovered OTHERs have the same serial number!)  It is simply J6 8839   and I bought it in 88 so I thought that was the year but it is not.  So originally I thought it was the 39th J6 in 1988 ... but no that is not how the serial numbers work. So I have no idea.  I put Seymour Duncan Seth Lover pickups on is and it is INCREDIBLE.  Everybody likes it.  I also have a Hamer Newport custom Pro and that is a perfect guitar too. And I have a Gibson J-100 Xtra on to which I had a plain tortis pick guard installed http://members.cox.net/ppitt1/gibson-j-100-x%281%29.jpg   So that's my line up.  http://members.cox.net/ppitt1/paulblueD.jpg   I also have a Washburn D10 that has been great guitar.

Hey Guys

Thanks for the info on the serial number. I've just bought a J6 with the serial number S4091603, so it was made in Korea in 94, looks about that age, and will clean it up and put new strings on.

I'm guessing that if it came out of Korea that this was a good era?

Does anyone know anything else about this guitar? Seems to have a lovely action, as does my 88 Washburn Dreadnought Acoustic that I bought in 88.

Not sure of the pickups and haven't plugged it in yet as only got it tonight.

Thanks

Al
