New WD7SCE Is Here!!
« on: March 31, 2010, 12:17:33 PM »
I am happy to post that my DK20T neck issue is finally resolved!  The saga is over!  As I had already posted, Washburn graciously replaced the discontinued DK20T with the new WD7SCE model and it just came in a little over an hour ago.

I haven't had much time to pick around on it but here are my initial thoughts:

-most importantly, the neck seems to be true and the string action, even right outta the box is much, much better than my old one.  So that was the main thing I was looking for.  Still needs a slight neck adjustment but I'm not even gonna mess with it for a while.

-sound...not as robust or commanding as the DK20 surprisingly, but I'm confident a new set of strings will fix that in a heartbeat.  It does sound incredibly well and is very comfortable to play.  The strings pop and resound nicely on hammer offs and slides and pull offs.

-electronics...very nice setup here.  An electronic tuner and built in system for plugging up.  All digital display, no led's.  I like it although I have only used the tuner...not plugged to an amp yet.

-appearance...this is a sharp looking guitar.  I was worried about the cherry sunburst color (wasn't given a choice) but it's nice!  Pardon the crappy photos below, shot them in a hurry on my phone at lunch.

-overall...has that nice solid top wood smell!  Yeah!  Very comfortable but the fretboard is a little sticky...needs some polishing up.  So far, I'm very happy!!

Can't wait to sit down and spend some time pickin'.  I'll post more later after I've had a chance to play more.  If there's anything more I like about it, or don't like, I'll let y'all know.

Thanks to Washburn for taking care of me.  I will be a Washie fan for life.
Mike

very nice, Mike, and congrats on finally getting the issue resolved, another example of Washburn doing the right thing.
Guitars, I have a few - but then again, too few to mention

Nice guitar!  I'm glad it's resolved to your satisfaction.  Way to go, Washburn!  BTW, what is the model of that preamp?

McCloud...on the pre-amp, the only labeling on it is just the Washburn logo.  It's pretty slick though.  I got home late and still haven't had a chance to plug up but will give it a good run down tonight hopefully.

Thanks...the color is growing on me.  I'm a little bland I guess and prefer the natural color but no big deal.

I've had it now over a week and liking it more and more.  It sounds better and better, and the neck is settling down.  I gave the neck a little more relief as it was not quite where I wanted it.  May consider shaving a bit off the bridge once I get the neck settled.
