instead of having two volume and two tone knobs on my WI-14, could I somehow end up with 1 volume, 1 tone, and 2 other misc knobs? how hard would this be to do, and what would be the losses/benefits of doing such? thanks!!

that should be possible. Just wire up for what you want and leave the other two pots disconnected. check out http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/ see what you find.
