It may change it a tiny bit but I doubt you'll notice unless you're an uber tonehound.

If you're changing pickups why not just buy the ones you want already fitted with covers?

Fitting metal covers means you need quite a high wattage soldering iron to ground them to the baseplate and then you should probably wax pot them too if you're going to use lots of gain. Then, not all pickups/covers have exactly the same pole spacing and you've got to find covers that match your pickups.

I've fitted metal covers myself a couple of times and it's quite a bit of faff.

I bought some EMG-esque plastic covers a while back for a project but never used them. These should be much simpler to fit.

That's too much work to do for just pickup covers. I won't put them over the new pickups. Anyway, thanks both of you.
My first question remains unanswered... Is the neck on WI18 and WI64 the same???
