NX3 Clarification
« on: August 30, 2010, 09:46:23 AM »
I've been around long enough, I should know this....

An NX3 is simply an Asian built N4 with different p'ups, while N4's are exclusively USA Custom shop? Same dimensions, Stephens cutaway etc.

Is that correct? And what the general consensus on quality etc ( of the NX3)?

But I thought the 6 adds a control...tone, and the 3 has the single volume control a la the N4

nope

the NX3 should have 2 humbuckers and 2 controls

where have you seen an NX3 thats different?!

i've played an NX3 and it was dire, but it could've been a bad egg

NX6 is USA made NX3, but some NX6 have fixed bridge, like mine.

NX3 all have licensed FR, 2 buckers, 2 controls

you thinking of the N61? that has 2 singles

only N series with 3 singles are a few custom made NX6s and the N5

check this thread, in both before and after, it APPEARS as though there is only one, but the during pics tell the story.

Online searches bring up this same guitar. Thanks for the feedback

What do you want to know about it?  That's my guitar.

Guess I never did post the completed pics.  I updated that thread above.

What is the NX3 like? I see one on ebay that looks very nice for $550. I got a Davies 2.0 pad about 2 months ago and I'm instantly spoiled to the custom shop fit and finish on this incredible guitar. I assume the NX3 is more of a standard production guitar. But the NX3 is very sexy to me with the normal headstock and body mounted pickups. Can it be made to be a good player with the right setup? I'm getting a little sprung on these natural Wash's.

...or is that your project N3 and not really comparable to an NX3?

I have a standard NX3, it's a nicely made Korean superstrat with adequate quality hardware and electrics. It's never going to be as nice as a USA model but I'm happy enough with mine. Pickups are perhaps a weak point but they're passable and easily changed.

As ever, how well it's been looked after and how it's set up is going to make quite a difference so it'd be great if you could play it before buying.

That is an NX3.  I just customized it.

It's nice but there are differences - very slight.  Better tremolo on the N4.  Better pickups and electronics.  The neck from a N4 will NOT fit an NX3.  The body is just slightly different at the upper horn.  Both are about a 3/4 or 7/8 scaled down strat style body.  Body on an NX3 is typically 3 pieces vs a 1 or 2 piece matched.  Direct mounted pickups give it a slightly different tone.  I think $550 is way too much though for an NX3.

With the addition of a good tremolo and pickups the NX3 can be made into a very fine guitar.  I actually really liked the neck profile on mine.  Thinner than the one on my N4 Ash.
