Purpose of the X40 Pro cut-out?

Can anyone explain what the strange cut-out on the left (upper) side of this guitar is meant to accomplish? Is it for when you're tapping?

as far as i can tell its just to make it look pretty and unique, which it does!

very nice looking guitar. do not remember ever seeing one like it.
