Gotta admit,
I would rather be addicted to crack than a banjo!

Me too buddy!  I was just looking at the under $1000 banjos at http://www.janetdavismusic.com/und1000.html

Unfortunatley I can't afford a new one right now but I noticed some good looking ones under the Recording King, Bean Blossom, and the Gold Tone Cripple Creek all under $400.  Don't know what shipping to the UK would be.

I have an old Harmony Marquis and adjusted the coordinating rod and it did wonders for the string action.  Too bad the neck has a little twist in it but I get by.

My friend has a Gold Tone Banjo and mandolin, they are both pretty good for cheap instruments.
