1983 Hb 35 worth ?
« on: October 27, 2010, 01:58:51 PM »
I have a 1983 Washburn hb-35 with the serial # 8372, I was told it was an 1983 from Washburn's  technical support. It is in excellent shape and would like a ball park figure what it might be worth. I was told by a local guitar shop it was worth $250 for a trade.

Hello Tom, welcome to the forum.

First off, the dating of the guitar is suspect. There has been lot's and lot's of discussion on this forum regarding HB-35's with the 4 digit serial numbers, and all of it leads us to believe these are actually late 80's vintage. There is no concrete data, unfortunately.

To your point, value, it doesn't really matter anyway. It seems the oldest, most excellent condition -35' get perhaps 500.00, and 250.00 seems on the low side of the range. That makes sense because the shop you took it to is probably hoping to set it up, string and hang it on the wall for 450, and let it walk for 350 to 400, which is the range where I usually have seen these change hands.

Great guitar though. If it's not urgent, you may throw it on craigslist for 450 and see what you get.

Got any pics?? I know a lot of folks in your neck of the woods (literally) and might help you connect with someone.

It depends on the condition, of course, but unless it has problems (bent neck, lots of scratches, noisy pots, etc.) it is almost certainly worth more than $250. My suggestion if it is in good shape, would be to put it on eBay with a starting price of ~$350 and see how it works out.
