D49SPK 125th Anniversary? STRINGS??
« on: December 30, 2010, 12:26:03 AM »
Anyone out there have one of these? I believe it's a D46SPK except for a few minor differences. My question is...anyone have advice on a good brand of string to put on this pretty baby?

I just got a D49SPK off Ebay and love it! It has a rich sparkly tone with amazing sustain for an all laminate acoustic. The inner ply is plain maple and the center ply looks to be the same, as plain maple is plentiful and inexpensive. I like the brown Abalone binding alot and the gold Hopi binding on the top. I am using D'Addario Flat Tops semi flat phosphor bronze 12-53 strings as I like a warm sound with low fingernoise. You may want to try those or GHS has some great strings as well. The heaviest gauge I would go with is 12-53 or 12-54.

With all of my acoustic guitars, I use Elixir Nano/Polyweb strings. I use light to light-medium. They deliver a great bright sound even with guitars that are laminate. The durability is unbeatable with being able to use them 3-5 times longer than a normal set. I highly recommend them.
