need input on a 12 string
« on: January 29, 2011, 02:40:35 PM »
I posted this on a different thread earlier, think it should be here.

I want a 12 Washburn 12 string. I've seen several on different videos, a bit confusing. I'm a new player, but want something pretty good becuase once I have it, I'll have it forever because I have to order it left-handed.

The last guitar I bought a few years ago, I couldn't play. I thought it looked nice, so I got a guy to play it. Sounded good, so I bought it, had it converted and its great (Paul Graybeal was the luthier). I have to rely on what others say, and work out the details later.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Frog, when it comes to 12ers, you really need to play before buying...

A lady gave me a 72 Martin 12 string.......been in the case and looks new.  I can't play it because I play a nylon string guitar and the tension with 12 lite gauge strings and the closeness of the pairs are to difficult for me.  I tune 1 step down and capo 2nd fret and I can bang out chords, but can't play anything.

If you've never played a 12 string the difference from a 6 string may be a deal breaker for you.  Having it left handed may make you buy it to try it out.  That's a tough spot.....good luck.....janeguitar.com

I agree with Pike - play it before you buy it.  Make sure you really want a 12-er though.  I learned on a 12 string strung with six but now the 12-er mostly stays in the case now that I have several six string guitars.

I love it Treefrog.  It's the best sounding 12 that I have ever played.
