OT and worried
« on: November 14, 2011, 08:08:58 AM »
Is there a doctor in the house?

I'm a finger picker and I depend on my fingernails, no prosthetic finger picks for me!

Last July I had an accident and crushed my right ring finger and it broke in two places, consequently, I lost my fingernail.  My finger is pretty much healed now but my new fingernail is a pathetic looking little thing that is taking forever to grow back, it only covers about half of my finger and I'm worried that it is going to be this way, without ever extending beyond the end of my finger again.  Maybe I'll gross you people out and post a picture of it!

Seriously, I am worried about it.

Have you considered Lee Press-On nails?

Ray, I googled it, and they say that if you keep it dry and covered and don't pick at it (no pun intended) it should take max about a year..

YMMV, of course

OUCH!!  Sorry to hear about this.  As an interim step I'd certainly try a press on nail.  I cracked a nail once just prior to a gig.  Used super glue to stick things back together.

I've bashed and lost fingernails several times, and they do take forever to grow back to normal.  Just a guess, but depending on the break in your finger, there may have been a delay in the nail growing back due to the bone injury. If it's growing then it should eventually get there.

Guitars, I have a few - but then again, too few to mention

Yep, I'm always breaking nails. Press ons work great. I cut the front third of the thumbnails, modify and use those. Those and tea bag, super glue patches...
