My C104SCE was getting on my nerves lately. It just didn't seem to sound the same as when I first got it. I always "tweak" my instruments to get the most out of them, and I confess I was just about at the end with this one. I like the concept of "polished" strings, like the EJ51 D'Addarios, mostly for reasons of less string "squeak" when playing. I tried some other polished strings as well. When compared to a guitar I recently bought to repair (a Cordoba C5-CE), I was heartbroken. The Washy just couldn't compare. I also noticed that the C104's soundboard is very thick. So, as a last measure, I bought a set of Savarez 520J Super High Tension classical strings.
Eureka! I mean EUREKA! My guitar has come alive with tone, vibrancy, sustain, projection, and clarity that I haven't ever heard in her before! Just as an experiment, I put the EJ51s on the Cordoba. The sound took a nose-dive!
Given this happy conclusion, what are strings that those of you who own Classical Washburns find to your liking? No string-dissing here; different guitars seem to "like" different strings. Any input welcome!
