Was the J 6 first produced in 1988?
« on: February 21, 2012, 08:59:14 PM »
I was reading the serial number discussions  about the 1980's Japanese J 6's.  Am I right in thinking that they didn't make J 6's until 1988?   I think the forums concluded that all early J 6's have 4 digit serial numbers starting with 8 and that was 1988.  I haven't heard of one having a serial number that pre-dates those.  I recently purchased one with the serial number 8219 and just wanted to make sure.  Thanks!!

Hi Pborger, and welcome to the forum. I have put a link below to a previous thread which has some info on Japanese made guitars of which yours is one.
There are a few questions concerning the J6 models which may help or confuse you even more, but well worth the long read. Happy Hunting.

Thanks Cornish Boy,  it really is a confusing business.   I know that they said different headstocks were seen on the HB 35's but I've never seen a different shaped headstock on the J 6 (except for the more recent ones).  It seems like the J 6  was only made in Japan between 1988 and 1989 before moving to Korea.  If that is true, that is a short window of time!
