Hi all i am a new user from the uk i puchased a wasburn D10SCE i decided to lower the action but when i removed the saddle i found the makers had used the wiring of the pickups as a shim anyone come across this and is this the norm

Are you talking about the undersaddle transducer (UST)?  If so that is the pick up.  Remove that and you will no longer have an acoustic/electric.  If there is a wood shim, under or over the UST then you can remove that.

 have now replaced it and just filed down the saddle alot better now was not too sure about the wire but made sense thanks very much for boths advice.
