Washburn XS-5 changing Jack output?
« on: March 30, 2012, 10:30:09 AM »
Hello Basseurs! I have always had a problem with my xs5 jack output and want to change it. Its an active system, but I dont know if that is important. Anyway there are three wires going in to the jack output. Is it stereo ? or why are there two wires in the middle? I have bought a new jack that would fit, but its one inner and one outer connection. Can I just solder the two inner wires on the inner tap and the outer one on the outer tap? or will this f..ck my bass up?

hello bryn,

welcome to Washburn bass section...  have you tried cleaning the output jack?  since it is active pickup system, i strongly suggest removing the 9-volt battery before cleaning the jack...  i bought RadioShack Control / Contact Cleaner and Lubricant and use it to loosen and clean the grime of the contact points.

i just replaced the 9v battery clip, it is fairly simple process...  i solder the original 9v batt clip but since it is open in the back, i thought it best to replace.

incase you need wiring diagram, check for the appropriate model http://vintagewashburn.com/Wiring%20Diagrams%20PDFs/WiringDiagrams.html

good luck!!! :)

You probably know the answer by now but the wires are
signal
ground
and power
the power and ground connect together when the jack is inserted to allow the active circuit to work
