Help with identification
« on: April 28, 2012, 11:08:53 AM »
I bought a second-hand electro acoustic nylon string back in the mid 90's - it originally cost me around £600 (about $975 by today's conversion rates). It's a great guitar and I love the playing feel and sound.

However, I'm not sure what model this is and I would like to know more info about it if possible if anyone can help ? ie. model #, what year, place of manufacture etc..

I've checked old catalogs and I think it's an early model Tanglewood EC41 - considering that the EQ300 was replaced around 1990 I think ?

There is no label inside to identify it either - only a Washburn stamp and 2 numbers (see included attached pics at the bottom of this post). The first number has 3 digits - 491 - stamped on the base of the neck inside the soundhole - and the second has 5 digits - 95864 - stamped inside the soundhole further inside at the very top. I'm not sure why there are 2 sets of numbers though?

Also, while I'm here - if I wanted to replace the EQ300 with the latest EQ module available - would this be possible - and how would I go about it ?

Any help appreciated..
Thx

Thx.. so this is definitely an EC41 - although mine has an EQ300 which makes it an earlier model.  I'm just wondering which year it was manufactured - maybe those numbers give a good idea ? Also, where ?

What would be it's value now - it's in good condition ?

Still interested in changing the EQ on it if possible.

Thx again..

95864 is your number, in a newer guitar it would be a 95. You say you bought it in the mid 90's. Was it like new when you bought it?  Tom.  :)

Hi Tom.. thx for your reply.

Yes, mid to late 90's - not sure of the exact year I purchased it though, but it was like new also.

So do the first two digits indicate the year it was manufactured ? If mine was 95, then why does it have an EQ300 system which I think was replaced with the Equis system in the early 90's ?

Not sure what your year is.If it was a 6 or 8 number it would be easy to tell. It might be a 89. was that model type made in 89? I guess you have to compare it to the add. Tom.   :) It seems to match, all but the EQ.
