Idol Series End?
« on: October 04, 2012, 02:55:53 PM »
Does anyone know exactly when it was that Washburn ended the original Idol and switched to the WIN style?

I've searched and can't find it.

Totally agree ,idol old shape is a much better looking and more playable than les  paul shape. I had a guitar teacher last year who bought a new Gibson trad LP at the same time i bought my Idol . I cant tell you how gutted he was when he played the idol..... better weight, tone ,neck and a nicer looking guitar. I cant understand the dominance of Gibson in this market ,their guitars are heavy and overpriced! Idols Rule !

read the first entry in this thread, respectfully submitted to the faithful here on the forum by Mod and director of manufacturing WBNick in Oct '09, where he informed us that they were looking at a redesign of the shape and wanted "our" input.

Based on that, I "Believe" the official rollout was NAMM '11, but I'm not sure.

that thread has continued to this day.

here's the link....(can't figure out how to turn text into a hyperlink....i really liked that!)

Tio K...That link just leads to the main page of the forum. Thanks for the NAMM '11 info.

The reason I asked about when the series ended, is that there are a lot of original Idols for sale, listed as 'New'.
Trying to figure out how long they've been sitting around.

not sure why that is, for me it goes to page one of a thread.....

got toe idol sub forum.....

half way down the page is a thread called "Who Loves the Idol" It began in Oct '09, When Nick said they were planning the redesign.
As I recall they continued the the "classic" Idol shape, even after the LP clone was released. I haven't followed that closely in recent months however. I do know both designs were being sold at the same time for a while. So even an "older" shape could be only a year or two old.

Sadly, if you go to the Wasburn Site, the only models in the Idol section are the LP styles.

I found the "Who loves..." thread.Huge!....Frankly, the question of why keep the original Idol shape is nonsense.
How many Gibson models have the LP shape?...They haven't killed those off.

Hell,even Fano uses the style.
