Washburn M1K Fretwire size ...Please...
« on: October 31, 2012, 04:17:11 PM »
I was wondering if anybody might be able to tell me the size of the fretwire on my Washburn M1K Mandolin has. I dropped it and damaged 2 frets and would like to replace them.
I have 3 Washburns, M1K Mandolin, HB35S and a B9 Banjo. Plus 15 other Guitars.

Thanks I have looked and see what it in-tales to replace my frets. I will measure my frets and see what fret I should use. I just thought maybe someone had done this before and might have known the numbers.  Again Thanks for your help. I emailed Washburn and haven't heard back from them. I wanted to get the ones that were on this Mando.    :)

Fretwire is likely 1.5mm, which would be considered narrow fretwire.  Its always best to confirm this measurement prior to working as variances can occur.

I measured and found the size is Crown Width:.053"  Crown Height: .037"  Tang Depth: 0.54" and .023 Tang Width. They are called " Narrow/Low" Fret Wire. I got them on Ebay at C.B Gitty Crafter Supply. They are 18% Nickel-Silver Alloy. I have them now, 6 feet Total in Nine 8" lengths. They cost me  $6.79 and $2.50 Shipping. Total $9.29. I will give updates when I started on the repair.  They also sent instructions of Fretting Do's and Don'ts
