B16 -5 string
« on: June 27, 2003, 09:41:03 PM »
I acquired this instrument at least 30 years ago from a private party.  My husband didn't follow through with lessons, so it sat in a closet all this time in its hard case.  Where do I look on the instrument for some ID number to help determine age, etc.  Your help is sincerely appreciated.  Jan

Katie,

If you remove the resonator there should be a tag on the inside with the model number and serial number.   The first two digits of the serial number should be the year of manufacture.

If you need to get an estimate on value check out http://www.elderly.com/cgi-bin/elderly/evalform.pl

I have a friend who died and left behind a B14 and by filling out the form I found that the banjo was worth more today than it was when it was new 20 years ago.   Good luck.

Eric
