If you want to do pickups first I'd suggest contacting Kent Armstrong. His phone number is(802)843-1065. He'll rewind your pickups to get the sound you want. He asks plenty of questions so he's sure what you want and the cost is much cheaper than buying new pups. I got an XB100 my self with the full intention of upgrading it. After a new string through the body bridge, had a fretless neck made, made some changes as far as pots and capacitors and wiring, and next thing is my pups are on their way to Kent to be rewound but that has to wait until next month tho. I don't have near as much into it as a custom oe even most usa made models and I have a Bass I'm very pleased with.
