washburn x10 project-necks
« on: November 27, 2013, 01:02:01 PM »
ok so I bought a nice Washburn X10 off craigslist for $60 a few weeks ago. I got it as a project guitar, im gonna change the humbucker, tuning pegs, and a few others things.  I also kinda wanted to throw a different neck on there.  the guitar has 24 frets, so i would obviously need another neck w 24 frets.  does anyone have any input on which names to look for? Im having a hard time finding ones from washburn (looking for a little higher quality than other x10 necks), so I was thinking jackson/charvel, or even kramer, bc rich, ltd,....maybe shecter. I just want to know what other ppl think of what other necks would be compatible.  thanks, any input will help.

If you're just experimenting, you can find a half-decent Chinese neck for $50 or so. No promises as to whether it'll eventually split, warp, or twist.

At the other end, you can have Warmoth build a 24-fret Pro for as little as $182 (no finish, no nut), or more if you want fancy woods, neck inlays (like, a mere $20 for real turquoise, coral, jasper, or malachite dots), radical radius, etc. -- & you have a one-year warranty if it happens to go bad on you. In theory, it's possible to specify an $800 neck, but you have to be trying hard; if you just want a fairly standard-looking neck, with finish, you're probably in the $300 range.

thanks for the input guys. after browsing around I'm just gonna keep the neck on there. I kinda like the maple headstock and I also lightly sanded off the "x-series" logo on it, just to leave something to the imagination.  I'm upgrading just about everything else on the guitar.  thanks .

here are some samples http://www.inlaysticker.com/customers-photo-gallery.html
