STRINGS FOR MY EA20
« on: March 20, 2014, 06:51:03 AM »
Hey guys, I'm looking for a recommendation for strings for my acoustic that will bend well. My current set up is with Adagio 12's and bending the G string on 7th up a step takes a ridiculous amount of strength and is almost impossible as it just reaches the point that the note plain will not sharpen anymore, and I'm in danger of losing a finger! They aren't old strings so it's not that- could it be that it's because they're phosphor bronze? Recommendations for strings suitable for acoustic lead would be appreciated....

Thanks

Dan.

Find a set  of acoustic strings with a unwound, plain G string.  Also consider going from 12's to 11 or even 10's.

Here is an example of an acoustic set with a plain G string.

I used to like really low action for speed, now I prefer really really high action just for the bends. The sustain with higher gauge strings with high action is also amazing. Mind you, it's a bit of a pain in the rear to get used to at first.

Thanks for the info. I'm a fan of Ernie Ball strings anyway and didn't think about an unwound G string, I was wondering if differing string materials made it easier to bend strings, but I'll order some and try it out!

I use .010 to .046 on my EA-30  and have for 20 years  phospher/bronze is always my go to acoustic string  Guild if you can find them anymore D'angelico (manufactured by GHS) is what I have on my seagull coastline parlor guitar and my EA-36 came with an .011 (high E) jazz set from D'Adario which I'd never played before but I love how they feel and sound on the EA-36...but that might just be because of how much I love playing that guitar
