is anyone tracking the Idols?
« on: July 19, 2014, 03:08:50 PM »
I was over poking around on VintageWashburn.com, & the thought popped into my head: "What do they have about the Idol series?"

And unless I took a wrong turn at Albequerque, the answer is "Nothing." ???

With the Washburn WI, Oscar Schmidt OI, & Lyon LI, there's dozens of models based off this shape, all the way from "beginner" guitars to Custom Shop handmades. Washburn has some catalogue PDFs, but the OI & LI have just bits of scattered info online.

So, before I get a wild hair & start researching, collecting specs & photos & feature lists, is there anything online that's already been done?

you're absolutely correct... I prefer made in Korea as quality is very good but after they moved production to China, there have been issues with quality and of course lead to poor perception of quality..  I have a Idol WI-64 with distressed hardware ( i bought it with artificial relic'd) - its Korean and plays great

here is the Idol WI-36T MiC, it was a 'B' stock (as indicated by 'B' ob back of headstock).. someone returned to Washburn..  i got it of Reverb, the person i got it from set it up good so i got no complaint.

I kinda have the MIK prejudice as well, but in the past couple years brand-name MIC has clearly been improving.

The Idol catalogue project kept expanding, but seems to've finally given me all the data there is to find. I'll edit it together someday -- doesn't seem like a topic many have found interesting since like 2007. :o

The list of Idols just keeps expanding, & -- as this is Washburn we're talking about here -- has all sorts of weird corners, thanks largely to the Custom Shop.

A few additions to the list --
