Assistance Identifying my Guitar please
« on: February 09, 2015, 02:31:09 PM »
Hello all!  New to the forum, but I have a Washburn Festival series Monterey that I bought off the original owner back in 1993.  At the time she told me it was a 1984 model, however, the Serial Number doesn't line up.  The S/N is: 93516, and MONTEREY is stamped next to the George Washburn logo.  Any assistance would be appreciated as reading through all the forums I am getting conflicting information.

Welcome to the forum.  The Festival series is very confusing.  Washburn sometimes made changes and kept the model name or number the same.  They also used the same model name with different model numbers.  The name Monterey was used with both the EA30 and EA 44.

Here is a bit of skinny on both.

EA30 MONTEREY
- single sharp cutaway dreadnought style, spruce top, oval soundhole, bound body, three-stripe purfling, five-stripe rosette, flame maple back/sides, mahogany neck, 21-fret rosewood fingerboard, rosewood bridge with white pearl dot pins, three-per-side chrome diecast tuners, acoustic bridge pickup, volume/tone control, 3-band EQ, available in Natural, Trans. Red, Trans. Blue, or Trans. Black finishes, late 1980s-1991.
Grading 100% Excellent Average
N/A $325 - 375 $175 - 225
Last MSR was $730.

EA44 MONTEREY
- single sharp cutaway thin style, solid cedar top, oval soundhole, bound body, three-stripe purfling/rosette, rosewood back/sides, mahogany neck, 14/20-fret bound rosewood fingerboard with pearl diamond inlay, rosewood bridge with white black pins, bound peghead with rosewood veneer, three-per-side chrome tuners with pearl buttons, acoustic bridge pickup, Washburn 3200/EQ300/Equis II electronics, available in Black, Natural, or Tobacco Sunburst finish, mfg. 1979-1985, 1987-89, 1992-
94.
Grading 100% Excellent Average
N/A $525 - 600 $350 - 400
Last MSR was $1,150.

The volume tone knobs and the serial number lead me to think the guitar may be a bit older.  The first digit in the serial number is the likely indicator of the build date.  That could be 1979 or 1989.  The control knobs, rather than sliders, would indicate an older model.  The fretboard inlays make me think it's a EA44.

Thanks for the info.  That is the direction I was leaning.
