Need help identifying N4!
« on: March 03, 2015, 08:41:25 PM »
Hey everyone. I've come across a deal on an N4 but for some reason it just raised a couple of flags with me, so I wanted to have some more experienced folks take a look at it to see if it's legit. I owned one a couple years back and regret selling it, so I'm definitely hoping this is the real deal. Any help would be appreciated! I don't have the serial number right now, but he should be sending it to me when he gets home tonight. Thanks!

The pics aren't the best, but now looking closer, it definitely doesn't look like an ebony fingerboard. And the way the pickups are mounted in doesn't seem right.

This doesn't look real. The pick up routs are all wrong, there are no pick up ring mounting holes, and the Truss rod access is wrong. Also, the Fretboard is Rosewood, and I'm not happy about the headstock horn shape. Not sure about the wood either....

That's an "N3" that Washburn produced for a short period of time (late 90's I believe).  Not to be confused with the original N3 (only one exists), nor the custom "N3s" that are pretty much N4s with maple boards.  This N3 was to fill the gap between the N2 & N4.  So, rosewood board instead of ebony, a washburn trem instead of a Schaller or original Floyd Rose, volume knob in the N2 position, no pickup rings, and Washburn pickups.  These seem to be replacement pickups.  Anyway, it's not an N4 and should not be priced as such.  I would suggest not paying any more than $400.00USD based solely on the photos (including case).

Get a serial number and let us know.   :)

Well he never replied with a serial number, but I did reply to him to address the issue. I mentioned everything that has been said in the thread and told him no thank you. This was 2 days ago now and he hasn't responded. Thanks for the help!

nice guitar but my thoughts are is its just a "home made" or "custom" one of replica etc. Too newish to be an n3 as well.

My money is still on it being a late 90's N3.  They did offer them back then, kids!  ;)
