Help identifying a Washburn bass circa 1985
« on: December 23, 2016, 04:16:19 PM »
Hi All --

This is my first post to this forum though I've been lurking here for years. I bought the bass pictured below in St. Louis in 1985-86. I've never seen another like it, and it's not for lack of searching. Does anyone know the model and year?

Thank you!

Hi, Your bass is a 1985 B-8.  Here is a link. Scroll down the page, as there are pics of  B-8 basses.

That's an interesting provenance! 8)

I'm guessing you're the original owner. In any case, you bought the bass in the hometown of the "Washburn" brand's owner, Saint Louis Music (still listed at 1400 Ferguson Ave), a major distributor for many years.

Doesn't hurt that it's made-in-Japan -- if not Matsumoku, then at least Yamaki.

Hang onto any receipts or tags you might have for it, & write down as much as you recall about the initial purchase -- old photos of the axe (or someone playing it) are good as well. Should you ever decide to sell, or to pass it along to heirs, details like that provide a small bump in value but it certainly draws more interest from serious collectors.
