D-10 CB bought at pawn shop
« on: May 02, 2017, 10:50:51 AM »
I bought a black guitar.  Not sure if it is. D-10 CB or D-10 B  SERIAL   #96040107. Bought it for my son for about $160 but he never used it.  I kept it for myself, but it's just too large for me.  I'm playing the Ukelele now and think it's time to find it a new home.  Depending on the value, I'm considering offering it as a donation for a silent auction for a charity.  Is there a way for me to get a decent estimate without paying for an appraisal?  Thanks in advance Amy

Welcome, Amy...hope I can be of some help!

Your D10B model would be a beginner level guitar made of "all laminate" construction. The D10 series had a standout performer, the D10S, which had a solid wood soundboard that created a VERY good acoustic guitar, perhaps the best value in a guitar ever offered by Washburn. Having said that, though, your D10 model is a large bodied guitar (the "D" stands for "dreadnought" which is close to the largest acoustic body style produced), but not exceptionally rare or valuable. It would make someone a very nice campfire guitar, where resistance to damage would be important (solid wood guitar panels are MUCH MORE fragile than laminate panels).

It is not likely that a knowledgable bidder would go over $100 for that guitar; however, many of us have noticed that there is something about a black guitar that really excites some people, so if the right person is a bidder it could go slightly higher. It is not an old guitar, most likely produced in 1996.

We do have members who have access to "Blue Book" values, perhaps one of them will join in this discussion...or you could search eBay for that model and the "buy it now" price might give you a fair idea of how it might sell.
