1983 Force 40, Need Specs?measurements to repair. HELP!
« on: May 08, 2017, 11:13:17 AM »
Back in 1983 my brothers and I bought a Force 40 bass new. About 15 years ago  I acquired "primary  placement".
A few years ago it developed a truss rod problem that required the fretboard to be removed (I was told by several techs it wasn't worth fixing......but it is). ultimately the fretboard was replaced with a new one. I was happy to get it back and it now has a functioning truss rod and is playable. However The bass is no longer the same. Something changed. My initial guess was that the new fret board is thicker than the original because the neck feels a lot chunkier than it used to. I am a guitar player an preferred its original feel. I met a tech who is confident he can get it right, however I don't know what right is. He pointed out that it may have had a radius or fret height change.
I'm hoping out there one of you Washburn people who understand my plight could pull out  their Force 40 and measure it for me.
I need to know........ the radius of the neck, I'm curious to know the thickness from the top of fretboard to the backside of the neck (where you might place your left thumb while playing) at the first fret and 12th fret area. It would be also helpful to get a measurement of the frets, how wide and tall they are.
Thanks,
Fred

Hey Fred, hope these measurements are helpful. All done with a steel rule, as I have no more accurate way of doing it.

Neck radius at 1st fret  21mm
Neck radius at 12th fret  23mm
Fret height  1mm
Fret widths in mm starting at 1st...
1 39.5
2 40
3 41.5
4 43
5 44
6 45.5
7 47
8 48
9 49
10 50.5
11 51
12 52.5
13 53
14 53.5
15 54
16 55
17 55.5
18 56
19 56.5
20 57
21 58
22 58

Have you compared the thickness of the two fretboards?

There's the possibility that glue-down wasn't clamped adequately &/or that a more pliable glue has been used.
