type of finish
« on: June 08, 2017, 06:54:30 AM »
Hi folks,I have an x series Q12 QVS and it's in need of some finish repair.Might have been heat or maybe something spilled on it that caused the topcoat to bubble.Anyways I have been trying to find out if the finish on these guitars is a poly or a laquer clear coat so I can figure out how to go about fixing it.Anyone know what type of finish is on this guitar?thanks.

I know it's an old post, but I just now noticed it, & it should be answered for future reference.

It's an inexpensive high-volume guitar. Therefore, it's going to be some type of poly.

And the quilt finish is likely a very thin veneer -- very easy to sand through -- though it could also be a decal (much like Fender's Foto-Flame).
