Help Identify My Washburn!
« on: June 18, 2017, 01:36:07 PM »
So I have this V-style washburn, sn K850700, model FV-5V, and Ive tried to research it but to no success. What I gathered is that it could be an 85 made in japan. If anybody knows more about it i'm desperately eager to hear!

Not a whole lot of info to be had about that particular model. Seems less common than its line mates FV-2V, FV-10V, FV-20V.

If it's got the tapered 3-3 headstock, it's probably Japan, Matsumoku in fact. But I think the FVs reappeared later with a hockey-stick head, which is likely Korea.

Falling asleep a few nights ago, that darned serial number popped into my head... :o

My unconscious didn't like it at all. I'm pretty certain that someone on these boards once said that ALL Japan-built Washburns had serial numbers of six digits or less... but now I can't find the thread. (FWIW, generally four OR six digits, but you know what I mean.;))

If so, that would mean that the OP guitar is more likely a reissue 1998.

Can anyone either support or deny this???

Hi bleeblee, bit of a guess but I favour the 1985 and built at the Kasuga plant Japan. Over the years I've had a couple of early Washies with the K prefix and they turned out to be kasuga built.
