washburn d30 s first or second
« on: August 05, 2017, 05:06:05 PM »
Hi just bought a Washburn D30 S
how will i no if its a first edition or second .
its got 5 numbers serial number it starts with  83___.
does this mean it is form 1983 ,
i read some where that the second editions stated in 1984 .
Looks like its got a solid top and maple back and sides .
the front of the headstock looks like maple.
the back of the headstock got a funny v part.
i don't receive the guitar till monday ,will hopefully but some pics up.
just wondered if any one can help.
i looked on the forum but still a little confused .
its a lovely guitar to play.

Hi scooterhax!
maple back & sides, V-Headstock , that sounds like the second version.
Does it have a 2 or 3 part back?

Be sure to show us some photos!

The comment about the front of the headstock being different from the rear has me wondering...could that "funny V" part be a volute where the back of the neck blends into the headstock? Other than that, I agree...they are (mostly) finely made guitars and IIRC the first edition had the 3-piece back and the newer has the 2-piece back (and no volute???)...but our historians will have the skinny on it, so hang around!

Cheers!

Upload your picture to Postimage and copy then paste the hot link for forums  to this topic.  Here's your picture:

This does appear to be a second version D-30....slope shoulder....most likely built in 1989....nice guitar!

Hey scooter
It looks like my D-30, just less "experienced"  :D
If it sounds like mine, I know why you are happy!
I found the bass strings quite strong sounding for fingerpicking, after experimenting I ended on Newtone bronze strings 11 15 22 30 40 50, which makes it more balanced than the usual PB light sets I use on other guitars. Of course you might end with other choices with different needs and prefs.
Have fun! Post a recording!?
Cheers

Hi
I thought that my self , that the E string was quite strong sounding, which
I like. Spiecaly with fingerstyle blue 's.
I bought it as a bit of a knock about guitar .
But it is so nice to play , it will be cherished as much as my others .
