Washburn with no serial number on the label?
« on: February 10, 2018, 04:40:50 PM »
Ever seen a Washburn without a serial number on the label inside the body of the guitar?

I was surfing around on eBay and found one...hope I can get the copied URL to show it.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Washburn-J-2004SW-LTD-2004-All-Solid-Wood-Limited-Edition-NEW-OLD-STOCK-599-OBO/112740571635?hash=item1a3fdc99f3:g:6dYAAOSwogpaUo9E

Well, it didn't display the URL for the photo, but you can still find it on the eBay photos.

Cheers!

I think it's MUCH more amusing that a "2004" guitar has a label that says 1883-2008. 8)

Sometimes, guitars aren't tagged until they're ready to ship. Not all shipped guitars get tagged at the factory. Not all tags stick.

My guess: someone (whether the Red China factory or the stateside distribution hub) was getting down to the last few of these. They stamped the model number, but the serial-number stamper wasn't handy. No big thing.

Alternately: the tag was lost in transit. The dealer asked for a tag, Washburn sent it, maybe asking that the dealer hand-write the number, but that didn't get done.

not even close Tony what should have given it away was the fact that it was a limited run and they never put serial numbers on limited runs all the time looks like my headstock emblem with the same fret markers but different body heck for all its worth could very well be a sample model so as all limited edition they only made a few mine was a run of a 125

Though I'll enjoy solid info, I'm a little iffy about Washburn's use of the word "limited" (much as for"Pro"). For instance, what I've called the "D9_LTD" acoustics -- from at least D92 through D98 -- that appear to have serial numbers that put the runs like 1,000 or so.

Without a serial number, how does Washburn register a warranty? At the very least, it seems like slipshod accounting.

maybe they dont need the serial numbers as they are special runs for whom ever ordered them and there is that silly warranty card.  ship

Here's another serial oddity:  I've got an R320swrk with a small Ser. No. label pasted over the usual Washburn label.  The number appears to be:  *OI 12080xxx.  (the last digits are scratched off)  Elsewhere label indicates "Crafted in Indonesia"  I purchased new in 2009...

Woodrat:
I'd be surprised if anyone has matching serial numbers for the R320SWRK.... Here's one I bought direct from U.S. Music Corp in 2009. 1st image is the shipping box with the item serial number and 2nd image is the serial number on the instrument in the box.  The invoice (not shown), from U.S. Music Corp, uses the shipping box serial number for identification.

Notice the hand written 02 under the printed UPC sticker in the 1st image....it corresponds to the last 2 digits of the serial number inside the guitar.  I think somebody just FU...the UPC doesn't match what's hand written on the box and what's printed on the sticker inside the guitar.

This is normally inexcusable, but it happened about the time U.S. Music was sold....

My guess would be if the last 2 numbers are scratched off of the serial number inside your guitar.....it was probably done by the dealer. (When the dealer realized the serial number inside the guitar didn't match the shipping box serial number)  I am surprised that your serial number starts with 12 ....being a 2008 or 2009 model.
