Info on 1980 D50
« on: May 23, 2018, 04:53:01 PM »
Hi,

This guitar found me and I wanted to see if anyone has any info on it.  There was a card in the case saying it was purchased in 1981, says the model number is a D50, and the 6 digit serial number starts with 80.  My understanding is that the first two digits indicate the year.    Would love to know anything else about the guitar (specs, country of manufacture, approx value etc)

A friend of mine inherited it from her father it was his special guitar.  He told her that it is high-end.   I just strummed it for a few minutes and it felt nice to me!  I don't think my friend will sell it for sentimental reasons but just wanted to find out info on it for her.  I'm going to take it to my guitar guy for a set up because I have a feeling the guitar will be sitting around my house for the time being.  Might as well get her to sing!

Very nice guitar made in 1980 solid spruce top and solid Rosewood back/sides only seen one since my dealings with Washburn and enjoyed playing with it I believe it was made in Japan it is in the right time period as for value well thats a hard one but I would put it around the $500 - $625

Nice one!
I can confirm info from Dugly. All solid according to blue book. Must have been a short lived model, not in my catalogues.
Ebony fingerboard & bridge, beautiful inlays and binding!
Care to show more photos?

Thanks for the info fellas.  Sounds like Washburn  didn't make very many of these.  Makes since that I was having trouble finding info.  I'll post some more pics when I get back from vacay.  FYI the guitar in the case just to the left of the washburn in the pic is a Gibson L-30 that her father had.  It's got to be at least 75 years old looks like that's when Gibson discontinued them.
