Since I'm Here.....
« on: February 10, 2003, 11:27:17 PM »
I might as well stir things up a bit by saying I've played the washburns and I'm not too impressed.  I haven't played the really expensive U.S.A. model but the others kinda sucked.  I play a Gibson Explorer and I've tried many guitars from strats to kelly's to fukcing cheapo Hondos, my gibson takes the cake.  I will say this though I've also played the newer gibson explorer and it didn't seem to play as well either.  Maybe I'm in love but this guitar is seriously the best I've ever played, and I've been playing for 12+ years.

Lord Gunn,

You need to look at what you're playing to find something to compare it properly.  YOu have a thick heavy guitar with Humbuckers.  A strat and the many strat clones will seem like lite beer compared to your canadian lager of a guitar.  By the same token, the lower priced Washburns are still only a shot of watered down liquor next to your moonshine.  Try the dimebag pro series.  I think it will be more to your liking, plus you'll get some tones that you'll find aren't in the Explorer's vocabulary.  Even in the Explorer family, you found a black sheep.  There are public comsumables and then there is craftmanship.  After 12 years of playing, why waste your time with a student model?   Get you hands on an instrument worthy of your experience.  Good luck and let us know what you think.  And no, I don't work for washburn.

what do I think about when i play?  Left finger, right finger, left finger, thumb...Doh!

well its a matter of taste

while the tone and style of the explorer has always apealed to me
the gibson neck is carpal tunnel city for me
i have never liked playing on it for any extended period of time

having played on about everything out there
i have to say that the idol series or the new x50 will go one on one with any gibson product quality wise and when it comes to value it will blow them away

of course you can be a hardcore gibson man      they make great guitars

i would just put the tone and quality of my washburns up against it anyday

Play a U.S.A. washburn next to you're explorer and you will then see how great washburns are. You cant compare a quality made usa guitar(which the explorer is) to a cost cutting over seas model.
