See if you like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53PZkJsZ2t0&mode=related&search=

I have both of Howard's CDs and love them.  Although the video and sound on YouTube isn't great it's good to watch the (apparently) effortless playing.  http://howardemerson.com/

What do you guys and gals think?

Hmmmm.....you are right about the YouTube piece; effortless.  Good playing but not the kind of thing that you see that stirs one to pick up the guitar.  However, it's a shame that one of the 4 other songs on his site wasn't on YouTube instead.  That IS inspirational playing!!!

Actually, I disagree.

As opposed to some of the stuff posted that I could never play in my wildest dreams, Howard's stuff is beautiful, but is also something I could aspire to if I were to truly apply myself.  His vids immediately sent me back to my fingerstyle books.  I wanted to re-dedicate myself to practicing and playing this style of guitar.

Hi Guys,
I'd like to introduce myself: I'm Howard Emerson, a fingerstyle/open tuning/bottleneck guitarist from Long Island, NY!

I just happened to check my web site usage indicator and noticed some hits coming from the Washburn site, so upon doing a little search...........Here I am!

Thank you so much, Cal, for the kind words and the link to my video!

I do understand what Pie is saying, and it's a typical response: So many people hear my stuff and they think that it's really simple to play, regardless of whether or not they like it.

It's only once they sit down to learn that 'simple' song that they realize they're in way over their heads........It took me a lot of work to make any of this stuff sound easy!!

I don't pay much attention to the chops-meisters out there. I like a good song with a good melody and I hope that my stuff is like that.

I have a student who just showed up, but I'll be checking in again later.

Thanks again for all the nice comments!!

Best regards,
Howard

OH No! We've been found!

That's funny stuff Howard.  Yes, you stumbled on our little enclave of guys and gals suffering from serious G.A.S. (guitar acquisition syndrome).

Thanks for putting your vids up, I really enjoyed them, and as I said it re-kindled my interest in getting serious about fingerstyle.

Hi Bill,
Ironically, the student who I just finished with brought his Washburn 'Monterey' today. He bought it new in June of 1983! His other guitar is a Jimmy Buffet 'Polliwog'(I think that's the model) Martin.

In any case, I'm glad you're enjoying my videos. They were put up for me by a friend out in Mesa, AZ who shot them at my last spring tour stop.

By the way, I do long distance video lessons if anyone is interested.

Any questions about any of my songs or techniques? Please don't hesitate to ask!

Best regards,
Howard

HOWARD AND HIGH MESA;
PLEASE NOTE THAT IN MY ORIGINAL STATEMENT I SAID THAT HOWARD'S PLAYING WAS EFFORTLESS BUT THAT I SAID NOTHING ABOUT IT ACTUALLY BEING SIMPLE OR EASY TO PLAY.!!!  AS WITH ANY REALLY GOOD ACOUSTIC FINGERSTYLE MUSICIAN, HOWARD MAKES HIS YouTube TUNE LOOK DECEPTIVELY SIMPLE.  MY COMMENT ABOUT THE OTHER TUNES WAS THAT THEY ARE MORE ATTENTION GRABBERS, DUE TO SYNCOPATION/SLIDE/ETC.
I ONLY DREAM TO BE ABLE TO PLAY SOMETHING THAT WELL!!  I MEANT NO DISRESPECT TO HOWARD AND I APOLOGIZE IF MY COMMENTS WERET TAKEN THAT WAY.  MY BAD!!!!

That's why I bought a Preston Reed instructional video.  He was the one that got Andy Mckee's attention.  I will learn this percussive tapping on acoustic.

Hi Pie,
Absolutely no need for an apology. You made it pretty clear as to what you were getting at.

I don't have the chops that many of these guys have. I think my writing, though, serves my playing style perfectly, and that's why there are a couple of more famous people playing my songs...........Here's Todd Hallawell (1997 Winfield champ) doing my '...and why not?'
http://cdbaby.com/cd/hallawell2 click on the 4th track, and then go to the last one. There, the song is reprised with several other players including Pete Huttlinger among others!!

Regards,
Howard

Mr. Python,

Please don't yell at me.  [:(]

I realized after I responded that I was misunderstanding what you were saying, so I'm sorry.
